Why a carpet and custom area rug is a perfect match

Walk into a flooring store and you'll be overwhelmed by the number of carpet colors, fibers, and styles. Even though it's smaller in stature, an area rug is just as powerful, especially when it's your custom, one-of-a-kind design.

The two of them work together beautifully, and we’ll tell you how.

Our staff at Cal Flooring has a saying at our decades-old company: We grew up in the flooring industry.

That is because our company founder, Calvin Tollini, learned the trade from his father who owned a successful flooring retail company. It seemed only natural that 20 years ago he and his wife, Jackie, would open their doors.

This company has a well-stocked inventory of all flooring materials, as well as an experienced staff who works with top realtors, designers, architects, general contractors, and property managers.

We hope to see you soon. Our showroom is in Auburn, CA and we service Grass Valley, Nevada City, and New Castle. Be sure to ask about our quotes and any discounts or promotions.

Benefits of the carpet and area rug

  • Style. Carpet is modern, up-to-date and constantly changing with technology, with expanded color palettes, digital patterning and an even higher level of durability and stain resistance. A scatter rug comes in an unlimited number of colors, sizes, and shapes, especially when custom designed, a benefit for those oddly shaped rooms,
  • Noise reduction. Both underscore the theory of Form + Function. The fabric keeps sound vibrations from bouncing off the walls and creating an echo. Carpet acts as a cushion that blocks out muffled conversations, beeping devices, phones and more. So does a scatter rug for any area and, especially when it’s a custom, one-of-a-kind design, it’ll be just another item in your design toolbox. Ask your retailer for more information.
  • Comfort. Any soft surface is going to easier to stand on.
  • Allergy and asthma relief. While vacuuming is terrific for removing surface dirt, pollutants and particles also become embedded in the fibers where they’ll stay until deep-cleaned.

How can I use both?

  • Layering is trending hot this year. Put one over your wall-to-wall carpet or big rug. When you get tired of the look, use a different one for the area.
  • Define spaces. There's often one big room for both the living and dining area or home office. Even with wall-to-wall, you can place a rug strategically to separate each area.
